COMMUNITY OF LEARNERS: FALL HOLYDAY SERIES

Kick off a new year of learning by joining our COMMUNITY of LEARNERS for a 3-part series all about the Fall Holydays. This series is open to the entire community! Learners of ALL AGES are welcome and encouraged to join us. Each session will include: age appropriate learning groups, family/friend small group learning, and community activities.

COMMUNITY & CULTURAL CONNECTIONS

WHAT’S JEWISH ABOUT……..
Do you look at the world through Jewish eyes? Enjoy a docent led tour followed by free time to explore the museum with Jewish eyes. Are there pieces by Jewish artists? Is the museum supported by Jewish donors? Is there Jewishly themed art work? How about art work that represents a value or piece of history shared by our tradition? When we’re done at the museum, we’ll grab a cup of coffee and share our discoveries. A minimum of 10 participants is required for each tour so please register in advance.

TED TALKS/ELI TALKS
Day/Time: 1st Tuesday of the month (beginning in October)

Come together to watch TED Talks, ELI Talks, and short videos on a variety of topics from “Who is a Jew?” to “Lead Like a Great Conductor” to “The Paradox of Choice.” Watch the video, study thematically related Jewish texts, and bring your views to the table for lively debate and discussion.

KOLOT – ADULT CHOIR
Day/Time: Wednesdays @ 7:30pm beginning September 30
Location: Rosenberg Hall

Let your Jewish soul soar by joining our Adult Choir, Kolot. Can’t read music? No problem! If you love to sing and want to connect Jewishly through music, join Kolot! In addition to our weekly rehearsals, we sing at Shabbat and Holiday services throughout the year. New members are encouraged to make a $36 donation to cover the expense of a Kolot Music Binder, and returning members are encouraged to make a donation of $18 to cover photocopy expenses. If you’d like to get an early start, join our Kolot High Holyday Choir. Rehearsals are on Wednesdays
from 8p-9:30p beginning August 26th.

TORAH STUDY

ESTUDIA LA TORAH EN ESPAÑOL

TORAH STUDY

Study the weekly Torah portion with Maimonides, Nachmanides, Leibowitz and other great sages through the works of Rabbi Harvey Fields A Torah Commentary for Our Time. Last year, we started with the first Torah portion, Bereshit, and we will continue through October first when we study the last portion, V’Zot HaBracha.

THE BIBLE’S TOP 50 IDEAS: The Essential Concepts Everyone Should Know
Day/Time: Thursdays @ Noon, beginning October 8
Location: Simchat Torah Room

Rabbi Dov Peretz Elkins, in his book The Bible’s Top 50 Ideas, shows us how the lessons of Torah can guide our personal and communal lives through the exploration of big ideas found in Torah.

Join fellow travelers and guides on a journey through Jewish history and culture. Delve into questions of Jewish identity, seeing the world through a Jewish lens, and living among Jews in the 21st century. Whether you are Jewishly literate or beginning your exploration, if you’re interested in learning more about your Jewish heritage, if you are coupled with someone who is Jewish, if you are parenting a Jewish child, if you are thinking about conversion, or if you are just plain curious, we hope that you will consider joining us. There is no text for this class, but please consider making an $18 donation to cover photocopy expenses.

VIVIR COMO JUDÍO

HEBREW READING BOOT CAMP!
Day/Time: Sundays: October 4, 18 & 25, November 8 & 15 from 1:00pm-3:30pm
Location: Chanukah Room

Learn to read Hebrew in five (5) Sunday sessions with Let’s Learn Hebrew. Let’s Learn Hebrew uses phrases and words that many of us already know (Shana Tovah, Mazal Tov, Shabbat Shalom) to help us put the Hebrew we learn in context. The program is an in-person/online hybrid. Cost of materials $18.

HEBREW CHAVURA: What am I Saying? What am I Praying?
Day/Time: Wednesday, 6:45p-7:25p beginning November 18
Location: Chanukah Room
Facilitator: Karma Fordis Lindner
The Hebrew word “chavura: means a circle of friends. We are creating a chavura dedicated to developing our Hebrew reading skills, building vocabulary, and exploring the nuances of the language that augments and enriches our worship experience. No text book, but please consider making a donation of $18 to cover photocopying costs.
