Karma Fordis Lindner

My Jewish education began at home with my father, Cantor Samuel Fordis, z”l, who instilled in me a love for all things Jewish and a passion for both learning and teaching.  He taught me to chant Torah – at a time when women were not taught such things – and he gave me the opportunity to teach Torah at a very young age.  As a teen, I attended Los Angeles Hebrew High School broadening my Jewish experience and my Judaic knowledge.

My family joined Temple Israel in 1992 and I began teaching 6th grade Hebrew.  In 1994, I took on the responsibilities of Temple Educator and in 1999, the Educator and Temple Administrator positions were combined to create one full time position.

The combination of these two positions has given me the opportunity to be fully immersed in temple life.  It has been my honor to collaborate with Rabbi Gwasdoff, Lindy Passer, and the community in the ongoing development of exceptional educational experiences for our children, our teens, and our adults.  We have also created a variety of unique worship experiences such as Visual T’filah and augmented our holiday celebrations through great community builders like our annual Purim Shpiel.  I am grateful to be a part of a community that encourages and supports us as we experiment, explore, and continue to grow both personally and professionally.

The diversity of my position has also offered me the opportunity to work with our Board of Directors and with a multitude of congregational volunteers on social action programs, interfaith dialogues, community outreach, congregational inreach, fundraisers, FUNraisers, and so much more.

I am so very grateful to Rabbi and Lindy for the mentorship and guidance that they have provided over the years, and to my children Halley, Kelsi, Mac and Ellie for their ongoing support.

It is a pleasure to be part of the Temple Israel Family.
